Historical Note

Carroll Raymond Pickard (1930-2021) of Hermon, Maine, was a farmer and entrepreneur who established Pleasant Hill Dairy, a milk production and delivery business. Pickard was the son of Floyd Raymond and Eloise Margaret (Ellingwood) Pickard. He attended Hermon schools and studied agriculture at the University of Maine. Pickard married Harriette Libby Dole (1930-1984) in 1951. They adopted three children: Bruce, Linda, and Stephen. After Harriette died in 1984, Pickard married Patricia Parkhurst Gee (1931-2019) of Glenburn.

Pickard ran Pleasant Hill Dairy from 1953-1985. He was active in professional and civic organizations including the Milk Dealers Association of Maine, YMCA, Pine Tree State 4-H Club Foundation, Greater Bangor Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts, and Hermon town committees. He was a founding member of the Penobscot Savings Bank and a founding director of the United Bank. Pickard attended the New Life Church in Bangor and Glad Tidings Church in Bangor. Additional information can be found in Pickard's two books: Carroll R. Pickard: An Autobiography and Pleasant Hill Dairy: A History 1953-1985.
