Historical Note

In the summer of 2009 Alexandra "Alex" Kelly, a StoryCorps alum, led a two-week summer program with eight Bangor-area high school students to record interviews with people experiencing homelessness. Students recorded inverviews at the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, edited the interviews at New England School of Communications, and broadcast these stories on the "Voices" segment of WERU-FM Community Radio. The project culminated with a public listening event at the Bangor Public Library.

Participating students were: Haley Burns of Winterport, a student at Hampden Academy; Colleen Gilley of Dedham, a student at Brewer High School; Deanna Kizer of Holden, a student at John Bapst Memorial High School; Whitney Klamm of Holden, a student at Brewer High School; Ryan Lad of Glenburn, a recent graduate of John Bapst Memorial High School; Tiffany Rideout of Winterport, a student at Hampden Academy; Will Witham, a student at Bangor High School; and Kate Wypyski, a student at Brewer High School.
