Content Description

Enlargements of photographs from Bradshaw's books The Maine Land (1941), The Nature of Maine (1944), and The Maine Scene (1947) as well as 15 photographs of Bangor commissioned by the Bangor Public Library. The library displayed some of these photographs September 8-19, 1959 as part of the City of Bangor's 125th anniversary celebration.

Biographical Note

Marion John Bradshaw (1886-1969) was a Christian philosopher, teacher, lecturer, and photographer. He earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in 1917 and a Doctor of Divinity degree from the University of Maine in 1930. He served for 32 years as professor of philosophy of religion at the Bangor Theological Seminary. Bradshaw was the author of several literary works and published three books of photography: The Maine Land, The Nature of Maine, and The Maine Scene.
