Historical Note

The Aroostook Hebrew Community Center (1953-2014) was located on Maple Street in Presque Isle, Maine. It was built to serve the religious and social needs of the Jewish community in Aroostook County and neighboring Canadian towns.

Timeline

1937
B’nai B’rith Lodge chartered.
1938
First observance of High Holidays held at Presque Isle High School.
1947
Torah presented by Hiram Adelman of Mars Hill to the Jewish community now comprised of about 40 families.
1952
Building completed in time for High Holiday services.
1953
Dedication ceremony held on October 25th.
2014
Temple closed. Building sold to neighboring business, prayer books transferred to Bangor for burial.
