Historical Note

The Bangor Carnival, organized by the Bangor Chamber of Commerce, was held June 17-22, 1912. It involved cornerstone laying ceremonies at the new high school and library buildings, the first Bangor marathon, flights by aviator Harry Atwood, the Ferari-Bostock circus, and several parades. The Trades Procession on June 18 featured local businesses and included nearly 150 floats and 600 horses. The Bangor Daily News and Bangor Daily Commercial reported that it was the largest parade in Bangor's history. A committee of women awarded prizes to the best floats. Prize winners were Eastern Manufacturing Co. for largest decorated float, Benson and Miller for best artistic float, and Adams Dry Goods Co. for best characteristic float.
