JoAnne Dauphinee papers
Scope and Contents
The JoAnne Dauphinee papers include scrapbooks, political memorabilia, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and other ephemera. The papers span the years 1927 through 2018, with the bulk of material dating from 1973 through 2000. Dauphinee’s papers document her activism and volunteer work within the Greater Bangor community with Maine NOW (National Organization for Women), ERA (Equal Rights Amendment), the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine, Fat Liberation, NAACP, AFL-CIO, the Mabel Wadsworth Center, and local and national 20th-century political campaigns and elections. Her awards, photographs, and political ephemera highlight her dedication and passion as a feminist and activist, her political positions, and the deep friendships she formed with fellow activists and community members in the Greater Bangor area. Her papers also document her family history as they lived in Bangor, consisting of her parents, Margaret and Reginald Dauphinee, her brother, Jon Dauphinee, and other family members, dating back to 1927. Family photographs, letters, and correspondence show her close relationships with her family, particularly Jon. The papers include handwritten notes, most created by JoAnne, documenting names, dates, locations, and events.
